Wiarda, Rosalie R. SODUS POINT, NEW YORK. Rosalie Reba (Look) Wiarda entered into rest on September 22, 2016. Rosalie was born June 4, 1921 to Clarence and Etta Mae Look in Altamont, NY. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years John (Jack) Wiarda, Jr and children Reverend Jacqueline Brouillette Vankouwenberg Thompson and Steven Wiarda as well as her two sisters Francis Able and Viola Baggan. She was survived by children Ronald Brouillette (PhD) and Penny Wiarda Shockley (Tim), grandchildren Tim (Bessie), Tom (Jennifer), Todd (Diane) Vankouwenberg, Vanessa and Mika Brouillette, Leah and Travis Shockley; six great grandchildren, niece Ella Larson (Mark), and goddaughter Tina Calhoun. Rosalie was a 1940 graduate of Wolcott Central School, attended the Rochester Business Institute (accounting) before working at Stromberg-Carlston, aligning radios for the Navy fighter planes during WWII. She spent her summers in NYC and Panama assisting her sister Viola, a dancer with the Rockets. Rosalie was very civic minded and was committed to numerous civic, political and religious organizations improving her community including: Chamber of Commerce, Sodus Point Mothers Club, American Legion, VFW, Girl and Boy Scouts, Hospital Twig, and Cornell Rural Extension. Rosie has been a member of the Sodus Point Methodist Church since 1948 and served as the Sunday school teacher for years. If that wasn’t enough, her claim to fame was her candied apples at Halloween bringing in hundreds of lucky trick-or-treaters. As well as Rosie’s Posies, her greenhouse on the bank of the lake where she and her husband Jack created their famous hanging baskets. Rosalie was an avid reader and traveled extensively taking her to Europe, Asia and Africa- among her favorites being the Taj Mahal and Angkor Wat. Rosie lived a very full, colorful life that changed and touched all of those around her. She will be greatly missed. A service will be held at Sodus Point Methodist Church on Saturday October 1st at 11:00 am. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to her beloved Sodus Point Methodist Church.
