McKee, Abner Sherman

Abner McKee died peacefully on July 5, 2017 at Clifton Springs Hospital at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his wife Caroline, his parents Abner and Sally and brother David. He is survived by his children: William (Rebecca), Carrie (Leon) Bouwens and Mary Ann (Mark) Hargrave. He was so proud of his grandchildren: Patrick (Mary) McKee, Christopher McKee, Jennifer (Steven) Rutledge, Peter (Melissa) Miller, Katherine Hargrave, Stephen (AsheLeigh) Brusso and Caroline (Nicholas) Armington. His beloved great-grandchildren are Mary Margaret and Julia McKee, Connor and Garrett Rutledge, Corbin and Cagney Brusso, Jack and Max McKee, Preston and Graham Miller, Kaylee and Macallister Sylvain and Juliette Armington.
Abner was born in Paonia, Colorado and moved with his wife, Caroline and young son, Bill to Sodus in 1949. He had served as a Marine in WWII and was a graduate of the University of Colorado. In Sodus he farmed with Caroline’s father, Art Boller at the C.A. Boller Farm. He also managed the Cornell/Cohn Farm until he retired from farming in the 1980’s.
Abner was a 68 year member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sodus. He served as Warden and on the Vestry numerous times. He was a member of the Sodus Town Zoning Board for many years.
He and Caroline were lifetime members of Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club and enjoyed playing golf there.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Abner’s memory to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 54 West Main St., Sodus, NY 14551.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 11 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sodus. Interment will follow at the Sodus Rural Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at hsnorton.com.
