Obituary of Roland John Schinsing

Please share a memory of Roland to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sodus: Age 67, passed away December 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. When he was diagnosed on December 4th he simply stated "it is what it is".

He was predeceased by his parents John and Dorothy (Thea Giese) and his Special Mother-in-law Irene (Davison) Vanderlinde.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, "Di-Di" Diane(David) Burlee and "H" Heather(David) Littlefield; the loves of his life, his most precious Grandchildren, Caitlin "Caiti" Burlee, Amy "Amos" Burlee, Taylor (Aaron Simpson) Littlefield, Abigail "Abi-doo" Littlefield, Reihley "Ry Ry" Littlefield and his little buddies Thomas "T" Burlee and John "John-John" Burlee. All his grandchildren together were his rugrats and he was always ready to give a bonk on the beezer. Siblings, Thomas and Marion(Donald) Shultz; many in-laws, nieces and nephews, special cousin Virginie(David) Triplett; awesome friends who could always be counted on, Sharon Purdy, Diane and Kevin Mckeon, Joan Drury, Helen Conaway and lastly the "The Minds". He enjoyed the monthly meeting with "the meeting of the minds". A group consisting of fellow retiree’s from RG&E.  If 6 people arrived it would take 6 minutes to solve the world’s problems. Then they would eat breakfast to gather their strength again.

Roland grew up with the nickname John and was raised on the old Sodus Fruit Farm. He took farming at BOCES and graduated with a certificate in farming mechanization and his diploma from the Sodus Central School in 1968 . While in high school, he met the lady who would become the love of his life, Doris Vanderlinde. They were married on January 10, 1970 and made their home in Sodus where they were both born and raised.  Together they raised a family he was very proud of.  His final words to her "I Love you too baby".
Even though he graduated with farming appearing to be his future, his father got him a job with RG&E.  RG&E became his life's work and he worked his way through the ranks to being Regional Manager for Gas Operations and he retired after 42 years.
He was a past chief with the Sodus Fire Department serving 22 years. He then moved to the Wallington Fire District where he became their commissioner and then the Treasurer/Secretary
His legacy of family and community service lives on through his children and grandchildren.  We ask you to live and love everyday as its your last.
