Obituary of Charles Barker

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Wolcott: On Tuesday April 21st, 2020, Charles Barker passed away unexpectedly in his home. Charles was born in New York, New York to Violet Patterson and Charles Hopkins on July 18th, 1945. Charlie grew up in and around New York City before settling on Long Island.  After a few jobs he found his way to the US Postal Service and began a career which spanned 40 years.  At the postal service, his first position was a letter carrier where his met his first wife, Emma. They married shortly after and had two children, John and Marguerite.  After 8 years of marriage they divorced and Charlie married his second wife, Janice and had another son, Patrick.  His second marriage eventually ended in divorce and he lived the remainder of his life with his girlfriend Barbara Freres and her family.  Charlie was known as a man who always did it his way, his extreme generosity, a great sense of humor, and sagging pants (inside joke). He had a guy for everything and definitely lived life on his own terms.  After retirement, he spent a lot of time with his dogs and cats and loved watching old westerns and news channels.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Barker; his first wife, Emma DeHollander; his second wife, Janice Avesto; his longtime girlfriend, Barbara Freres; and is survived by his daughter, Marguerite Fleming; son, Patrick Barker; his granddaughters, Asia Barker and Alessandra Fleming; his sister, Vandya Hopkins; his brother, Bruce Hopkins; his foster brothers; his dear friend, Donna Greene; and many more friends.

A funeral will not be held at this time. Charlie will be cremated and his ashes spread along the ocean near his favorite beach, Robert Moses State Park on Long Island, NY, at a later date.  I will always love you Daddy Pew Pew.  Condolences may be expressed at www.hsnorton.com.
