Obituary of Harriet L. Kawar

Fairhaven/Syracuse: Age 89, passed away peacefully Friday, April 16, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Mae C. Fisher and Edward Lewis. Also preceded in death by son, Danny; and ex-husband, Adil.

Harriet attended Syracuse University where she met her husband, Adil (Ed) Kawar. They married and raised four children. Together they settled in Hannibal, NY. They owned and operated the Midstate Market. In later years ran The Oasis in Fairhaven and The Glasgow Wharf in North Rose.

Harriet held a master’s degree in library science and became director of public libraries in SC, NC, CO & Norwich, NY. She loved her jobs and enjoyed moving to different cities and making friends.

Surviving are her three children, Ronda Becker, Neal Kawar and Jimmy (Maria) Kawar; one brother, Ron Fisher; seven grandchildren, Briannon Schlegel, Nicole Scheepsma, Anna, Dena, Declan, Alia & Natalie Kawar; 5 great-grandchildren, Andrew & Gabriella Schlegel, Rhys Owen Robertson, Leo Kawar Camilo and Ava Mae Sutterby.
