Obituary of Bonnie Jean Donk

Please share a memory of Bonnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Savannah: Passed away on 12/3/21 at the age of 80 while at the Clifton Springs Hospital.

Bonnie was born on January 11th, 1941 to Bertha Howes-Townsend and Wade Townsend where she grew up on Olmstead Road, Savannah.  She graduated from Savannah High School in 1958 as the Valedictorian of her class. She went on to the University of Oswego where she graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor's degree in Education.

Bonnie taught at the Florentine Hendrick School for several years amongst other jobs. She retired from the State DDSO home where she worked as a Direct Support Professional. She returned to Savannah shortly after her retirement where she resided until her passing.

Bonnie LOVED decorating. She made sure her house was decorated for every holiday. She started having craft class at the Brick Corner Senior Independent Living weekly where she loved spending time with all the residents there.

Typically, during nice weather you’d see her in town on her scooter “walking” her dogs. She loved her animals.

Bonnie is pre-deceased by her mother Bertha and father, Wade along with her son, Darrien Pierce. She is survived by her sisters, Donna (Townsend) Doig of Savannah and Deborah (Townsend) Crane of Savannah along with her niece, Renee’ (Frank) Paddock of Savannah.

A memorial service was held in her honor at the Family of God Church in Savannah on December 9th at 11am. Contributions in her memory can be made to Eastern Wayne Emergency Medical Services or the Wayne County Humane Society. Condolences may be expressed at www.HSNORTON.com.
