Sodus:

Jamal Newson, 33, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing Saturday, July 26, from 11 to noon at Redeem Bethel, 4496 NY 104, Williamson. A funeral service will follow, from noon to 2 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Huron Evergreen Cemetery. Following the burial all are invited to the repass at Redeem Bethel.

Jamal was born on June 9, 1992, in Sodus, the son of Otis C Newson and Julia M. Zanders. He was a graduate of Sodus central high school and attended Howard University in Washington DC. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working out and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with daughter Sadé and nephew Brandon. Jamal was a pillar in his family. His love was unwavering to those he held close to his heart. To know him is to love him. His contagious smile had a unique way of lighting up a dark room.

He is survived by his parents Otis and Julia; daughter Sadé; his sister Alison; a nephew Brandon; Aunts Maybell, Patrica, Lenore, Estelle, Brenda, Betty, Joyce and Venice; Uncles Isaac, Billie and Joseph; Grandparents Joe,  Jeanette and Alice; a host of cousins.

He is preceded in death by his uncle Junior.
