David D. Ares

December 15, 1972 – December 14, 2025

David Ares, 52, of Oregon City, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 14, 2025. 

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, December 19, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. at Norton Funeral Home, 45 W. Main Street, Sodus. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20, at 11:15 a.m. at the First Universalist Church, 150 S. Clinton Avenue, Rochester, NY 14604. A private burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

David was born on December 15, 1972, in Rochester, the son of David and Elizabeth (Weller) Ares. He was known as an extremely hard worker, demanding perfection of himself and encouraging quality and safety from those he oversaw on the job site as Key Carpenter Foreman on the huge Abernathy Bridge Project in Oregon City.. Having grown up in a union household, David understood the relationship between worker and employer and carried a strong commitment to safety, recognizing the many hazards of construction work. 

Several years ago, David traveled to Iceland, and pledged to return one day with his motorcycle to tour the country with the fresh air on his face. In the days before his passing, he was preparing one of his motorcycles for that long-awaited trip over Christmas vacation. Tragically, it was on a recent motorcycle ride that he crashed into a concrete barrier that ended his life the day before his 53rd birthday.

David is survived by his parents, David and Beth Ares of Sodus; his wife, Teena Cook of Oregon City, his sister, Amy Lee (Herman) and nephew Oliver of Los Angeles; and his uncle, Ray Weller of Sacramento. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Sky, and cat, Sams.

 He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Daisy and Jess Ares and Margaret and Harry Weller.

 David injected humor at every opportunity and remained young at heart throughout his life. His spirit, laughter, and love of adventure will be deeply missed by all who   knew him.
