Charles N. Zahlman Obituary

Charles Nicholas Zahlman

October 6, 1956 – January 4, 2026

Rochester;

Charles Nicholas “Charlie” Zahlman, born October 6, 1956, in Queens, New York, passed away unexpectedly on January 4, 2026, in Rochester, New York.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Annette Loiacono (Frances) McKay and Charles C. Zahlman.

He is survived by family who loved him deeply: Tim (BillieJo) McKay, Robert McKay, Mark (Sondra) McKay, and Theresa (Karol) Chordas. He also leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews—Karol, John, Catherine, Angela, Timothy, Taylor, and Joslin—as well as his uncle-Nick Loiacono; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and extended family.

Charlie was a true traveling soul. His life was shaped by the roads he traveled and the places he helped build—especially in Texas, where he found great joy in his work. Along the way, he helped raise some incredible women, leaving a lasting mark through his guidance, stories, and steadfast presence.

He had a deep love for Wyoming, cattle drives, and wide-open spaces that matched his free spirit. Charlie was a master storyteller, sharing tales so wild they seemed unbelievable—yet anyone who knew him knew they were all true.

Eventually, Charlie returned to New York, settling in Rochester, where he made his home. He was an avid collector of antiques and took great pride in knowing the history and origin of every piece he owned. Each item told a story, much like Charlie himself.

Charlie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His adventurous spirit, sharp memory, and unforgettable stories will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to share in his journey.
