Sodus/Rochester:
Willie Adams Smith, affectionately known as “Worm”, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, in Rochester, NY, at the age of 65. He was born the beloved son to the late Willie Adams, Sr. and Ruby L. Maddox on February 17, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois. He was predeceased by his father Willie Adams Sr.; stepfather Napoleon Maddox; grandmother Mary Bender Bond; and grandfather George P. Bond. His life was a testament to love, faith, and community.
Willie attended Sodus Central High School and pursued a trade working in asbestos. Throughout his life, he was known for his mild-mannered nature and his deep love for family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to attend family gatherings or spend time with those he cherished most. Willie had a unique ability to bring people together, whether it was though playing spades or enjoying time under what he and his friends fondly called the “disability tree”. These moments of comradery were filled with laughter and joy, reflecting his fun-loving spirit.
A man of faith, Willie gave his life to Christ many years ago and found solace in his church home. His commitment to his spiritual journey was unwavering as he worked each year to strengthen his relationship with God and live a life that reflected his beliefs.
Willie is survived by is devoted fiancée, Laticia Stuetley; his loving mother Ruby L. Maddox; three sisters, Rosa Adams Jackson (and her husband) of Lansing, Michigan; Shirley Freeman-Breedlove (Rondell); and Cynthia Maddox; brother, Shawn Maddox (Stephanie).
During his childhood he spent time growing and bonding with his aunt, Mary Ann Moore. Cousins, Chitonya Moore, Angela Moore Brewer and Keith Moore. His aunt, Rosa Newton, Cousins Vanessa Jackson, George Edward, Teresa Edwards, Champ, and Robert Newton.
Willie shared a special bond with his nephews, Lee Smith, Jordan Smith, and Parris Smith. His special bond with nephews, Brandon Coaxum, Darius Maddox, and Woodrow Edward; and nieces Shannen Maddox Moore, Shaneece Terry (Kenneth), Justice, Lauryn, and Destiny Maddox. He also leaves behind a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nephews and nieces, and countless friends who will forever cherish their memories of him.
Willie’s legacy is one of love and connection. He never met a stranger-his warm personality made everyone feel welcome. Whether cooking out with friends or spending time with family under the shade of the “disability tree”, Willie brought light into every space he entered. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
May Willie’s memory serve as a source of comfort to those who loved him dearly.
