Obituary of Maria Leunis Bacon

Maria Bacon, 86, from Winter Haven, Florida, formerly of Sodus, passed away peacefully, Friday April 3rd, 2015. Maria was born on October 23, 1929 in Holland and was the only child to the late Jan and Maria Leunis. She was preceded in death by her husband; Wilbur Bacon and son-in-law; Bruce Shove. Maria grew up in Williamson and later married Wilbur Bacon in 1949. They both stayed in Williamson until 1955 when they purchased what was known as “Bacon’s Garage” on Maple Avenue in Sodus. The memories are endless of the 40 years they lived and worked there. So many people’s lives have been influenced either by living at one of their apartments, working for them or just stopping by. Maria retired from driving a school bus for many years in Sodus; she loved to bowl and later became a youth coach at Cherry Lanes. She loved to be outdoors either gardening or building something. Survivors include her daughter, Alice (Bacon) Shove of SC, her son, Larry (Barb) Bacon of VA; six grandchildren; Christal (Daren Sr.) Shove of SC, D.Scott Gasper of SC, Andrea Gasper of KS, Derek (Tammy) Gasper of NY, Amber Bacon of NC and Andrew Bacon of VA; five step grandchildren; Lorrie Kelley, June Hoeffner, Jacqueline Purdy, Bruce Shove Jr., Stephen Shove and many great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 16th at Norton Funeral Home, 45 West Main Street in Sodus. A graveside service will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Pultneyville. Maria’s family would like to invite those that knew Marie at 4005 Pearsall Road; Williamson (near Williamson HS) to celebrate her life and share some stories following the graveside committal.
