Janet E. LaVoy, age 76, a lifelong resident of Montezuma, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015 following an extended illness. Janet was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Anna Jackson. She was the first postmaster appointed to the Montezuma Post Office by the Postmaster General in 1964. She enjoyed serving the Montezuma Community for 34 years as Postmaster before retiring 1998. She was a member of the Montezuma Senior Citizens and the Family of God Church in Savannah. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her home and heart were always open to her family and friends. She is survived by her sons; Daniel (Tammy) Carey of Savannah, Andrew Carey of Atlantic Beach FL and James (Nancy) Carey of Port Byron; daughters Gail (Melvin) Beebe of Fulton and Annette LaVoy of Auburn; brother Ambrose Jackson of Seneca Falls; twin sister Joyce (John) Stowell of Savannah; grandchildren Amanda (Kevin) Crane, Michelle (Darren) Smolinski, Brian Carey, David Carey, Michael (Veronica) Colgrove, Cody Colgrove, Melissa (Jay) Pennington, Justin (Katie) Beebe, Derrick, Michael and Nicholas LaVoy and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Corbin “Barry” LaVoy; her step-daughter Laurie LaVoy and her brother James K. Jackson. Calling hours for Janet will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 7-9pm and Friday, September 11, 2015 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Norton Funeral Home 13081 West Church Street, Savannah NY. A service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11am at the Family of God Church 13165 Church Street, Savannah NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Savannah Family of God Church PO BOX 273, Savannah NY 13146, or a charity of choice in memory of Janet.
