Obituary of Shirley (Dick) Burlee

Sodus/Williamson, New York Shirley (Dick) Burlee passed away on February 2nd, 2017 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Shirley was born on November 28, 1926. She was predeceased by parents Clyde and Cynthia Dick; husband Robert Burlee and sister Lucille Reynolds. Shirley is survived by her son Terry (Agnes) Burlee of Wolcott and daughter Jody (Kenneth) Pierce of Wolcott; grandchildren David (Jennifer) Burlee of Mayville, Shannon (Joseph) Bennett of Hamburg; 6 great grandchildren, Skylar, Autumn, Alanna, Dylan, Mason, Ashlyn; many nieces and nephews. Shirley was a longtime member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Sodus, the Rebekah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Shirley was a graduate of Sodus High School ad completed her training as a Registered Nurse through General Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, after entering as a cadet nurse in September of 1944. She used her nurse training working for Dr. Cotanche at Myers Hospital and eventually taught Practical Nursing at BOCES in Williamson. Shirley enjoyed sewing, crocheting, plastic canvas, macramé, camping and playing cards. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 at 2PM at the First United Presbyterian Church in Sodus. Private interment will be at the Sodus Rural Cemetery in the spring at a time convenient to the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made in her memory to the First United Presbyterian Church, 31 W. Main St. Sodus, NY 14551.
