Obituary of Melford Hopkins

Sodus: Melford C. Hopkins "Curt", age 82, died in Wilmington, NC on December 26, 2011 with his loving family at his bedside. He was born July 25, 1929, in Canandaigua, NY. to the late John and Dorothy Hopkins. He attended school in Canandaigua and graduated Canandaigua High School in 1946. He furthered his education and graduated Paul Smiths College in 1948 and the University of Miami in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force until 1952. It was at the University of Miami that he met the love of his life Elizabeth Burns (Betty). They were married February 9, 1952 and moved to Sodus, NY where Curt was self employed, operating GLF/Agway, Hopkins of Sodus and Culligan Water Conditioning. He served as the Sodus Village/Town Justice for 34 years and was a member of Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Curt is survived by his wife of 59 years Elizabeth; children Edward Hopkins of Washington DC; James (Jane) Hopkins of Sodus; John (Sandra) Hopkins of Sodus and Elizabeth (Robert) Turner of Wilmington, NC; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one sister Onolee Hubbard. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his brother John R. Hopkins and sister Halcyon Moore.
