Savannah: Finally at peace following a lengthy illness, December 29th at age 79. Born January 17, 1932 in Romulus, she was the daughter of Albert and Lillian (Burkless) Mayo. Laura is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Frank Turo. Laura and Frank were married in Waterloo on March 19, 1949; her children Lee (John) Crowell of Fayette, Dianna (Gene) Marechaux of Seneca Falls, Sissy (Celeste and Thomas) Grabbatin of Savannah, Robin “Frances” Turo of Savannah, Frank B. Turo (Rosanne Knight) of Seneca Falls, Thomas J. (Melissa) Turo of Spring Lake; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one surviving sister, Ruth Turo of King Ferry; many nieces, nephews, friends; special nephew Gary Wilson (Pat Evarts); and Laura’s loving dog Max. She was a longtime member of the Savannah Fire Department Auxiliary. Laura had a passion for fishing, and had won several competition awards for her catches. She also had been an accomplished chef, and loved to cook.
Laura is predeceased by grandsons Michael D. Jensen in 1996 and David E. Avery in 2011; her sisters Lillian, Betty, Jane and Nora; brothers Albert, Clifford, Jessie, Richard and James.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday (January 2nd) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 13081 West Church Street in Savannah. Her funeral service will commence at the conclusion of visitation. Graveside committal services at Spring Brook Cemetery will be at the convenience of Laura’s family. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, or to the American Heart Association.
