Obituary of Richard O. Stevens

Richard O. Stevens, 65 of Red Creek N.Y, passed away August 9, 2018 after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Rick was born October 21, 1952 in Auburn, N.Y to Frank Dale and Vivian (Robinson) Stevens of Red Creek. Rick was a life long resident of Red Creek. He graduated from RCCS in 1970, attended Cayuga Community College, and graduated from Buffalo State College in 1974. After graduation he started working for Wayne County Social Services as a Coordinator for the CETA Program, transferred to Child Protective Services in 1979, and that same year he accepted a position as a probation officer for Wayne County. In 1993, Rick was appointed Director of Wayne County Probation until his retirement in 2015.

Rick served on the RCCSD Board of Education for 14 years, serving as President for a majority of that time. He also served on the Board of Wayne County Aging and Youth, Catholic Charities, and Wayne County Water Authority. In his spare time, Rick enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and was an avid Yankees fan.

 

Rick is survived by his wife of 32 years, Darlene (Shanley) Stevens; his sons, Alexander (Stacy) and Eric (Sara); his mother, Vivian (Robinson) Stevens; sisters, Deborah (Richard) Mayou, Sally (Terry) Parks; brother, Bryant (Tina) Stevens; brothers-in-law, John Budinock and John (Skip) Shanley, as well as several nieces and nephews. Rick is also survived by a very special lifelong friend, William Stevenson. Rick is pre-deceased by his father, Frank Dale Stevens, father and mother-in-law John and Ruth (Saquella) Shanley, and sister-in-law Dawn (Shanley) Budinock.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2:00pm, at the Faith United Methodist Church, Oswego Street, Wolcott, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, Rick’s family has set up a scholarship fund at the Red Creek Central School District.
