Obituary of Phyllis Jane Stuerwald

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Savannah: Age 81, passed away on January 15th,  2019 at Newark Wayne Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth; daughters, Robin (Fred) Evarts of Clyde, Colleen (Matthew Hennessey) Stuerwald of Sodus, Nancy (Gerald) Stone of Canandaigua and Julie Stuerwald of Wolcott; 8 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister, June Done of Rochester.

Phyllis was proudly a lifelong resident of Savannah. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. When her children were young she was heavily involved in the local Girl Scout Troop, serving as Troop Leader.   Phyllis was an accomplished seamstress and baker, loved gardening and lawncare, birdwatching, boating, snowmobiling and nature as a whole. Together, she and Ken enjoyed woodworking and she was an especially talented furniture finisher. In additon to her hobbies and active family life, she played an integral part in running the family owned business, along with her husband. Furthermore, she was a dedicated caregiver to her elderly parents before their passing.  She was someone with a quick wit and  humor who was  lively, bold, and full of spirit.  Her family states that she made the “BEST” cookies and pies this side of the Mississippi River.  She, her quick quips and her cookies, will be truly missed.

There will be no services at the request of her family.  Private interment in the spring in Crusoe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood Ave # B1, Rochester, NY 14620. Arrangements entrusted to Norton Funeral Home, Savannah, NY. Condolences may be expressed at www.hsnorton.com
