Obituary of Gwendolyn R. Convertini

Henrietta: Age 91 formerly of Malone, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.
Born in Saranac Lake, NY on July 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late James and Mae Reid Gillmett. She was a 1939 graduate of Saranac Lake High School and graduated from the Adirondack School of Business in Malone in 1940. Gwen was a life time resident of the Adirondack Region where she resided for over 70 years.
On October 29, 1944, she was married to Joseph M. Convertini in St. Joseph’s Church in Malone. He predeceased her on July 15, 1997.
She worked at the Franklin County Court House in Malone from 1940 to 1948 as a typist in the Treasurer’s office, and later was manager of the Alice Hyde Hospital snack bar from 1972 to 1989. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Malone, where she served as president of the Altar and Rosary Society, and was Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Ave Maria. She was an active member and treasurer of the Franklin County Republican Club, president and board member of the Malone Golden Age Club, and was a member and president of the Seabreeze Association at her winter home in Florida for several years. Gwen enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, reading, shuffle board, and playing Wii Bowling, where she was top bowler at the Legacy at Erie Station Independent Living.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Ron Tirabassi of Rush, NY; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim Convertini of Hobe Sound, FL, and Richard and Cyndi Convertini of Mission Viejo, CA; 5 grandchildren, Bryan, Preston and Kaitlyn Convertini and Stephanie and Andrew Tirabassi; a few close cousins, nieces, nephews and many loyal, devoted friends from Malone, Florida, and Rochester.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Lehland Gillmett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 29th at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church in Rush NY. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Assoc., National Headquarters, 1301 Pennsylvania, Ave. NW Suite 100, Washington, D.C. 20004.
Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service of Malone, and the Norton Funeral Home of Sodus.
