Obituary of Robert A. Pettit

Wolcott: Passed away on Sunday April 29th, age 88. Bob is predeceased by his wife Edith in 2004, and by his daughter Shirley in 1950. He is survived by his children Ruth Avalos (Bill Moyano) of VA, Barbara (Jim) Countryman of FL, Karen (Andy) Wadsworth of Ontario, Donna (Steve) West of AZ, and Robert (Cindy) Pettit of Wolcott; grandchildren Anthony (Danielle) Cabrera, Christopher Cabrera, Jesse Avalos, Cory Avalos, Jason (Emily) Wadsworth, Matthew (Cortney) Wadsworth, Cali (Derek) Enright, Jamison Wadsworth, Gregory Colvin, Lindsey (Michael) Kincade, Ryan (Chelsea) Colvin, Bradley Pettit and Tyler Pettit; nine great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Emmagene Powell of North Rose, Rhonna Yasso of Leicester, Margaret Lawson of Canandaigua, Mary Steighler of Wolcott, Laurel (Richard) Mitchell of TN, Clifton (Joanne) Pettit of North Rose, Howard (Arvilla) Pettit of Wolcott, Leslie Pettit of NV, and Leroy Pettit of Wolcott. Bob served in the 310th Infantry/78th Division during World War II. He was the recipient of the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern (EAME) Service Medal, Army Good Conduct, and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Sodus/Williamson Flying Club, Wolcott Elks #1763, and was a life member of the American Legion. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, May 4th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 5925 New Hartford Street, Wolcott. Funeral Services for Bob will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by interment with Military Honors, at the Butler Center Cemetery. Bob’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his memory to the Wolcott Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 5841 New Hartford Street, Wolcott, NY 14590.
