Obituary of Gerald S. Slater Sr.

Sodus: Passed away Tuesday October 16th, age 82 at the Pines of Peace in Ontario, NY. Gerald was predeceased by his wife Katherine “Gracie” in 1986. He is survived by sons Michael and Gerald Jr.; grandchildren Michael, Nicholas, Adam, Lisa, Timmie, Joey and Kristen; brother Vernon Slater; and long time companion Zaida Bruno. Gerald was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly having served at Fort Myer, Arlington National Cemetery. After his discharge from the military he attended S.U.N.Y. Oswego where he earned his Bachelor and Masters Degrees. Gerald spent his entire teaching career at the Wayne Central High School in Ontario, where he was head of the Industrial Arts Department. He was active in Little League, and the Boy Scouts of America. The Slater family will receive friends on Wednesday October 24th, from 4 -7 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 45 West Main Street in Sodus where his funeral service will follow after visitation. Interment with Military Honors will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sodus Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Pines of Peace, Ontario, NY.
