Sodus: Gertrude Avery passed away Dec. 15, 2012 at the age of 99. She was born Jan. 11, 1913. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Avery; her 3 sisters, Louise Coleman, Dorothy Fairman & Ruth Wilson & 1 brother, James Pearce. She is survived by her son, James Avery (Debbie Neal), & her daughter Elizabeth (Gary) Ekkebus. She is also survived by her grandsons; Timothy (Lauren) Ekkebus of Buffalo & Jason (Maria) Ekkebus of Sodus Point. Gert was Sodus Town Clerk until 1978. She belonged to the Myers Community Hospital Twig Assoc. for many years. After she retired, she worked for Ellie Palmer household sales which she enjoyed for 18 years. She volunteered in her grandsons’ classrooms when they were in the primary school. She also volunteered at Blossom View Nursing Home. Her cookie baking & her cinnamon apples will be missed by many. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Newark Hospital & Blossom View Nursing Home for their wonderful care & compassion. A memorial service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In her honor, a 100 year birthday celebration is planned in January. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sodus Town Ambulance Corps, 7060 Ridge Rd, Sodus, NY 14551. Arr: Norton Funeral Home of Sodus.
