Obituary of Richard N. Bond

Alton: Passed away on Wednesday March 5, 2008, at age 89. Richard is survived by sons Richard “Rick” (Holley) Bond of Alton and Randy (Carol) Bond of Webster; grandchildren Amie, Austin, Stacy and Kurt; several nieces and nephews; feline friends Squash, Pumpkin and Tiger. He was predeceased by his wife Winona and by son Robin.
Richard was a World War II Veteran, having served as a 1st Lieutenant with the Army Air Corps, 466th Bomber Group in the European Theater, where he was a Navigator on a B-24 Liberator. He was awarded the Silver Star, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. Following World War II, Dick returned to the Alton area where he was a self employed carpenter, an avid outdoorsman, 63 year member of American Legion Post #881, and was the longest serving member of the Alton Fire Department.
Visitation will be Saturday (March 8) from 1-4 p.m. at the NORTON FUNERAL HOME, 45 West Main Street in Sodus, with Richard’s Funeral Service immediately following. Spring interment with military honors will be at the Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Alton Fire Department Rescue Boat Fund, the Alton United Methodist Church, Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401 or, to a charity of one’s choice.
