Obituary of Marilyn M Steighler

Wolcott: Marilyn M. Steighler, 85, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, December 26, 2021.

Friends and family are invited to call, Thursday, December 30^th, from 2 to 4 PM at Norton Funeral Home, 5925 New Hartford Street. A memorial service will be at the First Baptist Church, 602 New Hartford Street, at 11 AM Friday, December 31. Burial will follow in the Glenside Cemetery, Cemetery Street.

Marilyn was born January 7, 1936, in Wolcott, NY, the daughter of the late Clifton R. and Laura M. (Dobbin) Pettit. She graduated from Leavenworth Central School.   She worked 35 + years at Dr. Mason’s Dentist Office, the Sodus Health Center, and retired from employment at the Village of Wolcott office where she worked as the Village Clerk. She was an EMT on the local ambulance corps where she taught CPR and Advanced First Aid. She was a founder of the local Lioness chapter, a member of the Eastern Stars, the corvette club, Methodist and First Baptist Churches.  She enjoyed music, playing and teaching guitar and sang in the Methodist Church and Community choirs. Marilyn loved to read and enjoyed knitting.

She is survived by her children Lynn Housel, Terry (Debra) Sprague and Dee Sprague; stepdaughters Laurie (Chris) Bushey, Michelle (John) Castelli, and Pam Huber; sisters Rhoanna Yasso and Laurel (Richard) Mitchell; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husbands Robert A. Sprague and William H. Steighler; sisters Emmagene Powell and Margaret Lawson; brothers; Robert, Clifton, Howard, Leslie “Duke” and LeRoy “Unk” Pettit.

Marilyn’s family request memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 6025 New Hartford Street, Wolcott, NY 14590.
