Obituary of Chester Payton Jr.

Sodus: Age 68, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022, at Rochester General Hospital. He was born August 27, 1953, in Eufaula, AL; the first born of the late Rev. Chester and Eloise Payton Sr. Chet loved God and accepted Christ at a young age. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1970. He worked for General Motors in Flint, MI for many years and later moved to Sodus and landed a career at Cadbury Beverages Inc. for over 30 years. He enjoyed working on cars on the side, fishing, and trips to Flint to visit family. Chet was never shy of cracking a few jokes here and there. He would help anyone that he was able to. Chet leaves to cherish his memory with: daughters, Sherrithia (Ali) Haire of Flint, MI, Kawana (Chukwudi) Obioha of Houston, TX, and Sylinda Brown of Atlanta, GA; sons, Maurice Payton of Flint, MI, William (Cortney) Payton of Bay St. Louis, MS; sisters, Mary (Gary) Wicks, Valerie Cosby both of Flint, MI; brothers, Clarence (Venus) Payton (Powder Springs, GA), Matthew, Roscoe, Min. Wendal Payton of Flint, MI; god sisters, Yolanda Nunn, Tommiezine Robinson, and Geraldine Wells; grandchildren, Shanay Payton, Zaria Blade, Nicholas Payton, Marquis Primm, Jaylon & Elijah Payton, Teosha Meadows, Deaire Chatmon and Devonte March; great grandchildren, A.J. & Cory Funches, Keniya, Shaniece, Jaylen Primm, & Aliyah Payton; aunts, Jannie Jackson & Delores Payton; special friends, Ricky, Chris, Danny, Debra Martinez, Rose Jock, Willie “Ray” (Mollie) Brown and many others; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Chester and Mother Eloise Payton; son, Walter Payton; sisters, Elaine Ryans, and Teressa Payton; brother, Donell Payton; niece, Quintessa (Princess) Payton; nephews, Mark Payton and Cortez Cheathams; aunts, Eddie Mae and Elva Robinson, Lucy Mae Slater, and Betty Coleman, and uncles, Rev. Lester Payton, Jack Robinson, Willie, Lang, Daniel, and Doug Jackson, Anitra Payton.
