Obituary of Irene L. McQuown

Wolcott: Passed away on May 26, 2013 at age 87. Irene was born at Oil City, Pennsylvania on February 15, 1926. She was married on July 3, 1946 to Charles “Chuck” McQuown. In April 1963 Irene and Charles moved from Oil City to Sodus Center. Irene was Postmaster in Sodus Center, then became Cook Manager for the Wolcott Central School District for 18 years. She was a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene Church, and held membership in the Catholic Daughters of America, the Wolcott Fire Department Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Irene is survived by her children Mary E. McQuown of Wolcott, Joyce (Duane) Freeman of Wolcott, Robert (Saree) McQuown of Seneca Falls, Danny (Linda) McQuown of Hannibal, Rick (Deb) McQuown of Wolcott and Bill (Vicky) McQuown of Albany; grandchildren Tracy (Rod) Thompson, Patty (Todd) Schlee, Samantha McQuown, Dan (Dawn) McQuown, Jennelle McQuown, Michelle McQuown, Ryan, Josh, Tim, Zack, Lauren, Chad and Chelsey McQuown; great grandchildren Kaitlyn, McKenzie, Jack, Brennen, Chas., Sarah; brother Lee T. (Ann) Irwin; sister-in-laws Anna Marie (Bob) Stellman, Sally (Chuck) Long, Helen Irene McQuown; many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Irene was predeceased by her husband Charles “Chuck” McQuown in 1997. She is also predeceased by siblings Helen Hollingsworth, Alberta Lingo, Rosemary Coogan, Leroy Irwin, Donald Irwin, Chuck Irwin, Kathy Blandin and by in-laws Terry & Laurel McQuown. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 5925 New Hartford Street in Wolcott. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday from St. Magdalene Church, Washington Street in Wolcott. Interment will be at the Huron Evergreen Cemetery on Dutch Street Road. Donations in Irene’s memory should be sent to Catholic Community of the Blessed Trinity, the Wolcott Fire Department, or to a charity of choice in her name.
