Obituary of Ruth S. Kimpland

Passed away peacefully on April 8, 2008 at the age of 90. Survived by her niece, Bonnie Johns; nephew Thomas Kimpland; grand nephews Robert (Tracy), Thomas Jr. (Cathy); grand niece Cindy (Garrett) LaBar; great grand nieces Gwendolyn, Olivia and Hannah; and great grand nephews Max and Thomas III.
Born in Wallington, NY, she worked at The Normandy Inn for nine summers, received her Bachelors Degree from Buffalo State Teachers College, and her Masters Degree from NYU. Her teaching career started in Arkport, NY, it continued at Prattsburg, NY, Wellsboro, NY and Canton, NY, as Dean of Women at ATI. Her later years were spent as Director of Home Economics in the Rochester City Schools. Ruth also taught summer and evening Graduate courses at Syracuse University and Plattsburg State Teachers College. During the last six years of her career she was instrumental in developing the four inner-city Consumer Education Centers.
There will be no viewing hours and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at the Baptist Rural Cemetery in Sodus Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to Wesley United Methodist Church in Rochester, Linden Knoll, The Friendly Home Nursing Center, or The Wallington Cobblestone School House in Sodus, NY.
