Ivan L. Bulriss

3/1/1931 to 2/29/2024

Sodus:

Ivan Lloyd Bulriss was born March 1st 1931 in Ellenburg Depot, NY, at home, to

parents Eugene H. Bulriss & Carrie E.(Manor) Bulriss.

Ivan had 11 brothers and sisters. They were a close, hard-working family. He had many stories of his siblings and parents, both sweet and funny. They found happiness in the simple things in life, and in their shared faith.

As a boy, he worked at Cheeseman's farm, and told stories of his experiences there with his special friend, Dolly, the blind horse.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served in Europe as a Radio Operator at the end of World War 2, at Nuremberg during post-war trials, and during after-war efforts. He often spoke of giving candy to the children that were part of the displaced persons from the war, and how happy it made them. He also reminisced that at that time, the German beer was the best there was.

After returning from Europe, he moved to Sodus Point for work, where he met his wife, Margery. They were married for 65 years before she passed away. They had three daughters, Cheryl, Melinda, and Mary. They had a granddaughter, Brianna, who filled their retirement years with love, laughter, and activity. Ivan was happy to become a great-grandfather twice, with the news of another on the way.

Ivan was employed at Duffy-Motts in Williamson, when it was first being built, in the 1950s, and stayed until retirement.  He was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His family was the central focus of his life. He made the lives of his family rich in times together and experiences. We are left with the very best of memories.  Ivan was smart, talented, dedicated, hardworking, self-sacrificing, and brave; with a mischievous sense of humor. He was a man to whom duty, honor and responsibility were of the utmost importance. Men like him just aren't found much anymore.

Ivan is survived by his loving sister, Yvonne Bulriss, of Plattsburgh, sister-in-law Betty (Josh) Bulriss, of Ellenburg Depot, a brother-in-law Fredrick (Judy) Harrington of Springwater, son-in-law Timothy Evans, of Sodus, daughter Melinda Maldonado, of Sodus Point, daughter and son-in-law Mary & Shawn Moon, granddaughter Brianna Moon, great-granddaughter Isabelle Osorio-Ortiz, of Wolcott, and several special nieces and nephews.

Ivan was pre-deceased by his parents, 10 much loved siblings, his wife, Margery Mae (Harrington) Bulriss, his daughter, Cheryl Arline (Bulriss) Evans, and his great-granddaughter Sophia Mae Osorio-Ortiz.
