Frederick J. Castle

Sodus:

Frederick J. Castle 59 passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024, while battling a long-term illness.

He is the son of the late Albert F. and Freda A. (Gibbs) Castle.  He graduated from Sodus high school in 1984.  He is survived by his son, Jered W. Castle, sister, Denise M. Keyes, brother, Thomas R. (Beth) Castle, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and multiple cousins.

Fred was a “Grunt for Life.” Serving in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserves, then New York and Arizona National Guard.  He was assigned to an Artillery Unit and Mechanized Infantry.

Living by the popular code: Life taker/Heart Breaker.

He survived three marriages and when possible, tried to be the best father to his son Jered.

Fred was famous for being a right-wing Gomer Pyle-Ish comic antidote on the popular Brother Wease radio show.

Fred was a hard worker and was too proud to collect welfare.  Most people will not miss him (or attend his burial) until if the day comes, they need a selfless Grunt.

If you do not understand Aspergers then you probably won’t understand Fred.

Fred also had a hard time understanding people and the world.  Seeing life as black and white, not grey area for compromise.

Even though afflicted with a case of undiagnosed Aspergers, Fred taught himself electronics.  He even built a working scale R2D2 robot during his last months of life with the help from his son Jered and nurse Danny.

Fred’s family would like to thank Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Newark Wayne ICU, and Clifton Springs Nursing Home for the wonderful care of Fred and ask to please forgive any offenses that “grunts” do.

There will be a military burial at the New York State Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes located at 6632 NY-96A, Romulus, NY on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 2pm.  The attendees will need to wait to be escorted onsite for the service.

Fred was passionate about wanting in lieu of flowers donations to go to Tunnels to Towers Foundation

They help homeless veterans and their families by providing housing.  They help build, pay rent and mortgages to families of veterans as well.

We have a family member who recently passed and was a US Navy Veteran. His family has been a recipient of this foundation.  Please make the consideration in your donation worthy of your freedoms you enjoy.
