Obituary of Dwight Henry Andrews

Sodus Point: Passed away on January 6, 2011 at the age of 94. Dwight, known to many of his former students as Mr. A, was predeceased by his wife Mary Margaret (nee Knapp), daughter Linda Rae, and his sister Kathern Powell. Dwight is survived by daughters Dana Lee Andrews of Sodus Point, Kaye Ellen (John) Huber of Horseheads, and by his son Douglas Dwight Andrews of Sodus Point. A graduate of R.I.T., Dwight was an Art Teacher in the North Rose – Wolcott School District retiring in 1972. A World War II Army Veteran, he saw action in the Pacific Theater of Operations, (New Guinea and Philippine liberation campaigns.) He was wounded at Leyte on November 12, 1944. Dwight also served at the Pentagon and on General Douglas MacArthur’s Staff. His military decorations include a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He had been an active member of the Odd Fellows, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had been Police and Road Commissioner in Sodus Point. Visitation will not be observed. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday May 7th, 2 pm from the First United Presbyterian Church, 31 West Main Street in Sodus. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Sodus Rural Cemetery. Donations in memory of Dwight may be made to the Humane Society of Wayne County, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, NY 14489.
