Obituary of Thomas W. Ryan

Wolcott: Passed away unexpectedly at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital on Thursday January 2, 2014, age 80. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary; son Bill; granddaughters Jamie (Fred) Bundy, and Kellie Smith; great-granddaughters Ema and Lily; son-in-laws Scott Smith and Peter Porter; in-laws Walt (Elsie) Murrell, Kathy Patchen, Vivian Murrell, Anne Sharrow, Lillian (Gail) Schroder; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tom was predeceased by his daughter Tracy in 2007. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War. Tom was a member of Wolcott American Legion Post #881, was an avid member of the African Violet Society at the national, state and local levels, he had worked as an insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life, State Mutual Insurance, and later, as an inspector at Xerox in Webster. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday January 6th, from 2-4 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 5925 New Hartford Street in Wolcott. Immediately following visitation there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Wolcott. Following Mass, a reception for family and friends will be held at the Wolcott American Legion Post on Ridge Road. Private spring interment with Military Honors will be at the Huron Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tom may be sent to St. Mary Magdalene Church. or to Wolcott American Legion Post #881 in Wolcott. He will be missed by all.
