Sodus: Entered into life eternal on Monday September 29th, 2008 at age 90. Al is survived by his son Edward Albert (Patricia) Dobbin of Halifax, PA; his daughter Sue Ellen (James P.) Johnson of Newark; grandchildren Lisa Lower, Rachael Lesh, Jacqueline Johnson-Eng, Geoffrey Dobbin, Jesse Barrick, Gregory Dobbin, James R. Johnson, Jeremy Dobbin and Jennie Alice Johnson; 16 great grandchildren; brother Walter (Lorraine) Dobbin. Al was predeceased by his wife Mildred Haak Dobbin in 1980. A World War II Army veteran, Al was a 62 year member of the First Reformed Church of Sodus, the Chorus of the Genesee since 1981, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He had entertained countless organizations in New York and Pennsylvania from the early 50’s until March of 2008, and had performed at the Eastman Theater in Rochester. In 1980, Al retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he last served as the Postmaster in Sodus. He enjoyed traveling, visiting Civil War Battlefields, country music history as well as spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Al had been a regular weekly contributor of articles to the Sun-Record newspaper and, was former Disaster Chairman to the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 45 West Main Street in Sodus. On Friday, visitation will be held from 9 – 11 a.m. at the First Reformed Church, 18 Maple Avenue in Sodus where his funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at the Sodus Rural Cemetery. Al’s family requests that you consider a donation in his memory to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013, or to the First Reformed Church of Sodus.
