Savannah: Born on June 8, 1950, he passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2011 following an extended illness. John is survived by his wife Becky of 33 years; his mother Viola of Ideal, GA; sisters Sharon Gaudioso of Ideal, GA, and Shirley and Arthur “Butch” Shutt of Lyons; several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his father Howard Schleede. John proudly served his country for 20 years in the Navy. His deployments took him around the world. His military awards include the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy “E” Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon as well as a Commendation Letter from the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV). Following his retirement from the Navy, John drove tractor trailer for 15 years. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, 4-8 p.m. at the NORTON FUNERAL HOME, 13081 West Church Street, Savannah. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Butler – Savannah Cemetery on Rt. 89.
