Wolcott: Passed away on Saturday March 21, 2015 at the age of 89. Dick is survived by his loving wife Janet of 69 years; children William & Kata, Dale & Lacey Ward, and Steven; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister Joyce Stuck; brothers Donald (Lori), and Bud (Phyllis) Palmer; many close nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by sister Betty Barr, and by brother Harold Palmer Jr. Dick was a World War II Navy veteran. He served for three years on the U.S.S. Harrison (DD-573) a Fletcher Class Destroyer in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He is a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 10 Stars, and Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 Star. Prior to his illness he was able to travel to Washington, D.C. on Honor Flight to visit the World War II Memorial. Dick retired from Xerox in 1983 where he was a production foreman. Always donating his time and skills he was a 55 year member of the Wolcott Fire Department, a 43 year member of the Wolcott Elks, 25 year member of the Wolcott Lions Club, served as a Wolcott Village Trustee, was a member of the American Legion, and a charter member of the Wolcott V.F.W. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 5925 New Hartford Street in Wolcott. Dick’s funeral service will be Saturday, March 28th, 11 a.m. at the Huron Presbyterian Church. Interment with Military Honors will be at the Huron Evergreen Cemetery. Donations in memory of Dick may be made to The Dawn & Jacques Lipson MD Cancer and Blood Center, 1425 Portland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621, or to the Huron Presbyterian Church, North Huron Road, Wolcott, NY 14590.
