Obituary of Loretta M. Culver

Savannah: Loretta Culver of Savannah passed away peacefully, joining her beloved Carl, April 13th brightening this world for 89 years. Born Loretta Francise Mildred Diehl in Rochester on May 12, 1925 the daughter of Hilda and Karl Diehl. While growing up in Irondequoit, Loretta was an avid Girl Scout. Lore was a graduate of Webster High School and went on to be a medical secretary at Strongberg Carlson Pharmaceuticals in Rochester. During WWII she acted as an air raid warden and was a hat check girl at the Seneca Hotel. Loretta married Calvin Carl Culver of Savannah in 1947 where they built their own home and raised seven children. In her spare time, she was a member of the Congregational Church of Savannah. She was a poll watcher for countless town elections and served on several grand juries. She was a local leader in the Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council, helped with 4H clubs & had a part in the movie Lady in White (1988). She was genealogist, tracing the family back to the Mayflower. She enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Favorite times were spent traveling and at their cottage in Canada.
Lore is survived by her loving children: Leona (Jeffrey) Lauster of Lyons, April Culver of Savannah, Brian and Pam Culver of Cambridge, MA, Susan Darrin of Hague, NY, Brent (Georgia) Culver of Cicero, Clark (Kimberly) Culver of Clyde . Eleven grandchildren: Major John (Margo) Norton U.S.M.C., Bradley Lauster and Adele (Aaron) Fetter, Erin and Beth Culver, Hannah Darrin, Captain Joshua (Mallory) Culver U.S.M.C., Caleb (Rachel) Culver, Rachel, Benjamin and Joanna Culver, 7 great grandchildren: Devin, Keegan, Rowan Norton, Emily and Samantha Fetter, Aaliyah Culver, Amelia Culver and 2 sister-in-laws Roberta and Janice Culver. She is predeceased by her daughter Adele Gail.
A private family service will be at the Butler-Savannah Cemetery. Donations in memory of Loretta can be to the Savannah Ambulance Fund, the American Cancer Society and the Girl Scouts of America. Arr: Norton Funeral Home of Savannah.
