Joined the heavenly choir on April 15th at age 85. Mary Alice is survived by her husband of 62 years, John; son Paul Henry and daughter-in-law Lisa of Brighton; daughter Anne L’Hommedieu and son-in-law John of Williamson; grandchildren Alexandra, Taylor and Olivia Henry and Chris and Laura L’Hommedieu; sister Marjorie Shaw of Sodus, brothers-in-law Robert and Charles Henry and sister-in-law Jean Henry; nieces and nephews. Mary Alice was the valedictorian and president of the Sodus Central School class of 1940. She attended Syracuse University for her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education and was a music teacher at Copenhagen Central, South Onondaga Central and 33 years at Sodus Central School. She was a lifetime member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Sodus, as well as its organist and choir director for 53 years. She played piano for the musicals at Sodus Central School as well as for the Gatesinger Co., Ltd., and the Pultneyville Civic Light Opera Company for many years. She was a charter member and past president of the Beta Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of Sodus Women of Rotary and Sodus Monday Club, and a former member of the Sodus chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her retirement years, she delivered for Meals on Wheels, remained active in the musical organizations, helped her husband on the farm, and regularly played bridge with the Sodus ladies. Mary Alice loved music; she taught piano privately for many years and had many students. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sodus Presbyterian Church. Current and former choir members are invited and encouraged to join in singing some of her favorite anthems and hymns.
