Obituary of John B. Bowman

Savannah: Passed away on Monday, October 5th, age 84, at his home surrounded by his family. John is survived by his wife of 63 years Mildred Reed Bowman; his children Allen W. (Marilyn) Bowman of Wolcott, Gloria J. Bowman of Victor, Lorraine A. (George) Searle of Savannah, Dale E. Bowman of Savannah, Teresa L. (Michael) Palmer of Wolcott and Yvonne (Michael) Smith of Lyons; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Dorotha Loder of Clyde, brother Edward Bowman of Texas.
Born in Artemas, PA to John and Edna Shipley, he was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the European Theater of Operations. John served for a time as General George Patton’s driver. A Purple Heart recipient, he was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, he worked as a machinist at the former American Locomotive in Auburn, while at the same time running the family farm.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from the COLVIN-NORTON FUNERAL HOME, 13081 West Church Street, Savannah. John’s funeral will be held on Friday, 11 a.m. from the South Butler United Methodist Church on Route 89. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Butler-Savannah Cemetery. Donations in memory of John may be directed to the American Heart Association, or to Lifetime Care.
