Obituary of David R. Rising

Newark: Passed away on Thursday April 29th, age 66 following a brief illness. Born in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Leland and Jane Rolston Rising. Dave was a veteran of the Air Force, (1962-1969) Vietnam era in Iceland, Pennsylvania and then Thailand as a radar operator. His military awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal. Following his discharge, he joined the Lyons Police Department in 1969, retiring as a Sergeant in January of 1997. Dave then worked for 10 years at the Wayne County Office of Sheriff in various capacities. He later was employed by the Newark Central School District as a greeter and information officer at the Lincoln School. His affiliations include: former member and past president of the Palmyra Fire Department, member and Past Master of Drumlin Square Lodge #1180 F. & A.M., Member of Palmyra Eagle Chapter #79 Royal Arch Masons, Member of Palmyra Council #26 Royal and Select Masters, Member of Sagoyewatha Commandery #17 Knights Templar, Member of Genesee York Rite College #25 and a 32nd Degree Member of Consistory, Member of the Thailand, Laos and Cambodia Brotherhood, York Rite Mason of the Year Award and Past Commander of Sagoyewatha Commandery #17 Knights Templar. Dave is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jan; children Chad (Cathy) Frank of Orlando, FL, Kim (John) Rooze of Newark, Chris (Linda) Rising of Shortsville, Chuck Rising, Joilynn Rising, and Lucy Flores all of Newark; grandchildren Brandon. Lauren, Jackson and Laurel; K-9 friend Stormey; siblings Janet Finley of Hume, NY, Frederick “Ted” (Terry) Rising of Pahrump, NV, and Joan (Ken) McConnell of Henderson, NV; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday (5/4) from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the NORTON FUNERAL HOME, 45 West Main Street in Sodus. Dave’s Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will be held at the East Newark Cemetery.
