Obituary of Rev. Howard Wesley Bacon

Rev. H. Wesley Bacon went home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2010. He passed away in Oakton, Virginia at age 99. He retired in 1973, after more than 42 years as a United Methodist pastor in New York State. Rev. Bacon was active in the Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lake Worth, FL before moving to Virginia after his second wife, Clarissa Amidon Bacon, died in 2005. He was born in Cuyler, New York, one of nine children born to Rev. Howard S. Bacon and Della Bennett Bacon. Wesley was a graduate of Syracuse University and Boston Theological Seminary. He pastored several central New York churches, the most recent being in Syracuse, Solvay, Marcellus and Wolcott. Rev. Bacon was a World War II veteran, serving as an Army Air Corps chaplain in the China-Burma-India Theater. He attained the rank of Major before leaving the reserves after the war. His first wife, Ruth Hogle Bacon, died in 1996. They were married for 63 years. Rev. Bacon is survived by brother Robert (Miriam) of Lake Worth, FL, sons Thomas (Janet) of Fairfax, VA and John (Charlotte) of Thornton, CO, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Wesley will be missed and his memory cherished for his loving influence on the many who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on July 17, 2010, 11 AM in the Marcellus United Methodist Church, 1 Slocombe Ave., Marcellus, NY 13108. Memorial gifts in his memory may be sent to the Marcellus United Methodist Church. Arr. Colvin-Robertson-Norton Funeral Home.
