Obituary of Stephen Pope M.D.

Sodus: Dr. Stephen R. Pope passed away July 19, 2012. Dr. Pope Served in the Army Medical Corps during WWII. He completed his pre-medical education at University of Michigan and received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry class of 1953. Dr. Pope completed his surgical residency at Genesee Hospital Rochester, NY. He joined the staff of Myers Community Hospital in 1958 with a private practice in general surgery. Dr. Pope was a dedicated surgeon who touched the lives of many people in the community. He was an avid sailor and an accomplished woodworker who spent many hours working on his boats. He enjoyed photography, woodcarving, classical music and painting. Dr. Pope was the son of Wilfrid R. and Evangeline J. Pope (Denault), predeceased by his wife Nancy Ann Pope (Maibaum), brother Wilfrid R. Pope Jr. (Joanne Robeson); brother-in-law Robert H. Maibaum (Lois M. Bauer). Survived by his wife Kay W. Pope (Olmsted); children Deborah C. Pope, (Michael L. Collins), Stephen R. Pope, Jr. Jonathan E.D. Pope (Michelle), Brian T. Pope, Daniel H.S. Pope, Tamara A. Pope. Grandchildren Elizabeth S. Pope-Collins, Alexander D. Pope-Collins, Jonathan J. Pope, Nancy A. Pope, Madeline C. Pope, Maxwell T. Pope, nieces, grand-niece and grand-nephews. Visitation will not be observed. A Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. Pope will be held Saturday, August 18th, 10 a.m. at Church of the Epiphany, 105 West Main Street in Sodus. Private graveside services will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rochester, NY.
