Oh Dorothy, you will be missed. I had the honor to work with Dorothy through Wayne Co. Literacy Volunteers. She was so wonderful with her students. Dorothy also served on numerous committees of WC Literacy Volunteers. I don't think Dorothy knew what "retirement" was. Thinking of family members at this time. Take peace in the fact Dorothy always reached out to others and did things her way which is why she will always be remembered.

I am so terribly sorry for the loss of Mrs. Wiggens. I remember her well!! My heartfelt condolences to you and your family as you mourn the loss of this sweet woman!! She was my kindergarten teacher in 1969-70 and I have fond memories of kindergarten!! I still have my silhouette that she drew of each and every one of us during nap time for us to give our parents as a gift. My mother worked at the school as well and was able to gather supplies from each of the kindergarten teachers including curriculum to teach migrant children. I didn’t realize it at the time but my mother was a trailblazer and took on the Red Creek School System demanding a classroom for these children after Mr. Furleti would not allow the children in classrooms. My mother was given the janitor’s closet in the corner as you walked to the third grade classrooms to the left and across the hall were the lavatories and if you walked straight ahead you walked to the kindergarten classrooms.
I appreciate the support that Mrs. Wiggens and other teachers showed my mother and helped children along the way in life to learn how to read, add, subtract, some history, basic skills to survive in life.
I remember watching Sesame Street in Kindergarten and it came on during nap time. The funny thing is that my favorite part was this blue screen with orange dots that would would start one by one coming on the screen with a song that is etched in my mind and then the dots would only go so far and start going back one by one. It was the anticipation of the dots filling the screen all the way as the music built and of course the very last dot was the crescendo! I just loved that!! I don’t think anyone else remembers that but I do!
Do you know that I still have friends from kindergarten even though 2 1/2 years later we moved 4 hours away?? Through Facebook I have been able to reconnect with more of them and share memories and experiences.
After reading her accomplishments I am so grateful that she was instrumental in getting the cobblestone homes on the National Register!! She certainly was an accomplished woman and used her talents wisely.
I will never forget Mrs. Wiggens and may she Rest In Eternal Peace. She lived a fulfilling life and thank you for sharing her with us. Thank you for posting her accomplishments and obituary for us to pay our respects in one way or another. We pray in unison for you in your time of sorrow as you mourn the loss of your mother, grandmother and family member. May God Bless each of you.

Dorthy was my kindergarten teacher, I just loved her. I have memories of her pooping popcorn for the class and it was overflowing (as a child that was so funny) also of getting a rip in my pants and she had me wrap in a blanket while she sewed the hole. She told me years later that she was no seamstress so it had to be a little hole! She was a dear friend to my mother as well. They went to school together and your mom would come and visit my mother at the nursing home about 10 years ago! My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time! JoAnn Dowd Mulholland
