Obituary of Harold "Stub" Weigartz

Sodus: Harold A. Weigartz, “Stub”, age 83, passed away on Monday September 8, 2014. Born on April 24, 1931 in Olean, NY, he was the son of the late Harold F. and Evelyn (Jaster) Weigartz. His early life was spent in Olean where he graduated from Olean High School. He resided in Sodus for the past 40 years. Stub was retired from the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley. He was the Ranger of 121 acres at Camp Beechwood on the shores of Lake Ontario. Stub was the first man to receive the Girl Scout of Genesee Valley’s top award; the “Thanks Badge” for his outstanding service as Camp Ranger for 22 years where he helped thousands of girls and adults learn to respect nature and the environment. Stub was a prominent and well-known Stock Car driver in the Southern Tier during the late 50’s. He won about 100 feature races and numerous track championships. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout New York State. Stub is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 50 years. Children; Harold “Hank”, Rhonda, Thomas, Lisa, Michael, Jennifer, Tina, and Sandy the cat; deeply loved by his 15 grandchildren; sister Madelyn “Midge” Case, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Camp Beechwood/Wayfarer (East entrance on Maxwell Creek) Saturday September 13th at 11 a.m. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Sodus Point United Methodist Church, 7490 South Ontario Street, Sodus Point. Stub’s family requests the courtesey of no flowers, and instead requests that you consider a donation in his memory to either the Humane Society of Wayne County, 1475 County House Road, Lyons, NY 14489; or to the Sodus Rotary Club for their Camp Beechwood Project.
