The one thing the service really brought back to memory is the song Precious Lord Take my Hand by the Gaither Vocal Band. Papa used to play that song over and over on cassette tape. I made fun of him contantly for it. Told him the tape would catch on fire. What I wouldn't give to hear that tune bellowing from upstairs.
Miss you papa.
Your loving granddaughter

My cousin Herbie has always been a hero of mine. I looked up to him almost like an older brother, whether working together at the Thriftway, hanging out at family celebrations, or working on my Little League pitching form. He is well-known for his soccer expertise, but he was also a very fine baseball coach.
I'll never forget his 100-watt smile, & his singing at the top of his lungs when he went into the (supposedly) soundproof meat cooler at the store. But most of all, how he loved my sister Theresa, who was bed-ridden with cerebral palsy her whole life. No matter how busy his Thriftway delivery route, he always had time to visit & give her a big kiss, which made her deliriously happy.
Thanks, Herbie...we will all miss you.

My memories go back quit a few year's when Uncle Herbie worked at Thriftway Market.
My first memory was when Uncle Herbie delivered groceries to our home on Saturdays. I noticed this black leather cross body type of purse. I wanted to know what could be in there!!! Weeks went by and Uncle Herbie came and went but on this one Sat. I decided to find out what is in that purse.
So as he chatted with mom I tip toed over and unhooked it and stuck my hand in and out came what looked like a million dollars. I threw the money in the air and it went all over the kitchen. Uncle Herbie laughed but mom did not!
The other memory of Uncle Herbie, was a few years later I worked at Thriftway and when lunch time came it was a real lesson for me as to what makes a great sandwich! Uncle Herbie would go get a fresh loaf of Italian bread and a can of sardines. I would watch him slice 1/4 of the loaf width wise, and fill it with a full can of sardines. Needless to say I never did take a bite!
Uncle Herbie is really not my uncle but as a child I never knew that, to me he was and always will be my Uncle Herbie!!!!
I hope these sweet memories bring comfort to each of you in some way.
