Sodus, NY: July 10, 2009. Predeceased by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mary Alice. John is survived by his son Paul Henry and daughter-in-law Lisa of Brighton; daughter Anne L’Hommedieu and son-in-law John of Williamson; grandchildren Alexandra, Taylor and Olivia Henry and Chris and Laura L’Hommedieu; brother Robert and sister Jean Henry of Copenhagen , NY, and brother Charles of Ontario, NY; sister-in-law Marjorie Shaw of Sodus, nieces and nephews. John Henry was a lifelong Episcopalian. He was a graduate of the Copenhagen Central School class of 1942. He served in the Navy in South Pacific in WWII from 1942-1946. He attended Paul Smith’s College of Forestry and received a BS degree. He was an agribusiness man for 40 years. He was a former board member of Sodus Central School Board, Myers Community Hospital Board, Western Finger Lakes Solid Waste Management Authority, Wayne County Republican Committee (Treasurer), Sodus Center Fire Department (Treasurer). He was a former member of Sodus Rotary Club, Boy Scout Troup 111(Leader), Tuba Christmas, Sodus Marching Band, Sodus Stamp Club, American Legion (longtime member of firing squad), Sodus Presbyterian Church Band, NY Apple Growers Association, AFS club. He was a longtime volunteer at Highland Hospital, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Continuing his interest in horticulture, conservation and nature, John served as an enumerator for NYSDA Integrated Pest Management, a Dog Obedience Trainer for 4H Club, and served as a consultant for the U.S. Agency for International Development, Farmer-to-Farmer program. An avid traveler, John visited England, Netherlands, Alaska, Hawaii, Egypt, Macedonia, Kyrgyzstan, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Moldova, Russia, and Prince Edward Island. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church of Sodus.
