Diane--my most sincere feelings go out to you and all of yours. When I was there in January and asked Doug how he was feeling, he told me he was actually feeling fine, and I believed him. He had done it before after all--beaten the odds before. So I was surprised to read the news on Sunday. But I also think that "winning" or "losing" the battle to cancer are scored far differently in Heaven than on Earth. You and Doug had a wonderful love--I hear so many complaints of one spouse about another--and never heard that from either of you. Doug and you won the most important things of all--you had a true and eternal love; you had a home where all were welcomed; you raised three fantastic children into fantastic adults...and not to forget the fur children that have been part of your lives either. But for the present time there is grief, that is all too real. Call me anytime you want to--love Cheryl

What a wonderful life you lead cousin. You couldn't have chosen a better wife and lead a better life. You had a wonderful family; a beautiful daughter and two smart and funny sons.
I should probably throw a joke in here because you were one funny guy. However, I just don't have it in me right now Doug. Perhaps you are somewhere making those around you laugh. You knew the important things in life and that is why I will treasure your memory dearly. You are greatly missed. Words cannot express this. With love, Tom

I wanted to write to express my deepest sympathies to you and your family for the recent loss of Douglas Meisch. I was a co-worker and friend of Doug’s at Spherion in the Rochester, New York area. I remember him as a kind, helpful and humorous person. He seemed to always be ready with a joke and never hesitated to tell one. After leaving Spherion, I met him several times in Wegman’s and other places around Rochester and we were able to fondly reminisce about our work together. I will miss him.

Diane, Josh, Kara & Joe, my heart goes out to each of you at this very difficult time. It was through Doug that I knew just how much he loved and cherished each of you as his family.
I wanted to share the quote above because it everytime I read it, I can't help but think of how much Doug exemplified that in all phases of his wonderful but very short life. Doug was one of the most honest, open and fun loving people I have had the pleasure to know. His wit, humor and wisdom will be missed greatly.

Diane and family, I can't tell you how my heart aches for you. Di, the love you have for Doug will always be in your heart, in a special place that is just for you. He will always be there. He was taken from you to soon, but you can always find him, in the quiet of the morning, in the whisper of the wind, in the warmth of the sun on your face. He was your love, and always will be. It seems like it was only yesterday when we were just kids, and there was Doug, who knew he would be the love of you life?! I am so glad he was, you belonged and were so happy together. Words cannot express our sense of loss at this time but the love of all the friends and family speak volumns for the man I called my "big" brother, Doug. So many memories and not one is more special than the other. You filled our life with such warmth. Most everyone has a story or a "life lesson" that they can refer to you. I simply remember my big brother taking care of me when I was small. Holding my hand and walking me into school our first day at Sodus and making sure I'd know to get on the "Monkey" bus to get home. I know your in heaven making beautiful music with the angels and making them laugh until the tears flow.Every one of your wonderful children has unique parts of you intertwined in their personality. Your wonderful wife, our sister, will keep you with us through the years. See you in the clouds...Vic

Diane, my heart aches for you and the kids. Dougie was an amazing man, blessed with an unbelievably wonderful family. I only had the pleasure to know him for the last 6 years, but he quickly became a kindred spirit, a life mentor, and a true friend...the big brother I never had! His positive energy, graciousness, witty perspective and love for life were infectious and made him a tremendously magnetic personality. Our love and prayers are with you all. The suffering is over, the pain is gone. I witnessed love like never before. Diane, you are a special person. Joey, you demonstrated what every son should have seen. Such love every minute of every waning hour. I'm sure your father is looking down on you smiling with pride. Doug was so very proud of his family Josh, Kara and Joe your father was a very special man and will be remembered as a man of principle. I loved your Dad as a brother-in-law but more importantly, "as a friend." From Winston Ridge to the Buffalo Bills to political differences we debated for years. I hope I can be half the man your father was. Aunt Vicki and I mourn yet celebrate the wonderful gift GOD sent in the person of Doug Meisch.

Dear Uncle Doug,
Even though I was preparing for this, it is no less painful saying goodbye to you. Part of me was expecting this whole thing to be a really bad practical joke - when I came to your house yesterday to be with the rest of the family, I half expected you to jump out behind me and yell "Gotcha!".
But, you weren't there. It was not a joke. There were tears, and some laughs, but no Uncle Doug. My only consolation is that you are no longer suffering. I know you are in God's loving arms now, and you truly were a pillar of strength for this family and one of the greatest men I've ever known. I love you so much, and I just know that you're in Heaven- making the angels laugh until they cry.
I love you.
