Obituary of Robert Earl Dennison

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Earl Dennison, 82, of Tully, passed away peacefully on Friday, his beloved and beautiful wife Frannie holding his hand and with his family surrounding him. Bob was an unforgettable character with a sparkle in his eye, a wisecrack on his lips, and a cheery greeting for everyone he met. Bob was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey, in 1927. He grew up on the boardwalk in Atlantic City during the Depression, helping carry the equipment for many of the great Big Band acts of the day. When World War II began, Bob enlisted in the US Army Air Force and served in the South Pacific theater, stationed in Okinawa, working as a refrigeration mechanic. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1947 and was a proud member of the American Legion for the rest of his life. After the war Bob opened his own home repair business in Sodus, and eventually moved to Tully and took a job as the property manager for the Central New York Girl Scout Council. For 32 years he was the loving steward of Camp Hoover in Tully, and Camp Near Wilderness in Parish, as well as to all the young campers who enjoyed those facilities. He was known to his “thirty thousand girls” as Ranger Bob. Bob was a member of the Apple Valley Methodist Church. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Frances Houghtaling Dennison, with whom he raised three wonderful children, Amy [William] Hand, Beverly Fishlock, and Andrew [Shawna] Dennison; and was the extremely proud grandfather of nine [Andrea, Christopher, Jessica, Dustin, Laura, Sydney, McKinley, Callaghan, Eoghan]; great-grandfather of four. [Michael, Julia, Madeleine and Jonathan]; his sister, Julia Dennison Feeney, beloved uncle to Mary Catherine [Richard] Contant of Elba; many nieces and nephews and legions of friends who were very important to him, especially his best friend, Vernon “Dick” Kennedy and the Jersey Boys at Kennedy Hardwood. The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Creamer for taking care of “his little Bobby” his whole life. He enjoyed life, was proud of his family, and will be dearly missed. Bob's family will receive friends on Friday June 4th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Tully Masonic Lodge, State Street in Tully. His Memorial Service will be held beginning at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways or the Apple Valley United Methodist Church. Arr: Norton Funeral Home of Sodus.
