Obituary of Edward Frederick Fairman

Viera, Florida/Sodus Edward Frederick Fairman, age 102, passed away on April 4, 2016. Born in Phelps, NY on September 25, 1913, Ed was the son of Edward William and Jennie May (Stewart) Fairman. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Agnes (Pearce) Fairman. Ed is survived by his daughters Carol Lynn Siefer (Chuck) and Cynthia Ann Malchoff (Kevin); grandchildren Jennifer, Laura, Carissa, Amanda, and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren Ian, Michael, Cameron, Claire, Jack, Emma, William and Thomas; his sisters Mildred Parmelee and Margery Stallman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed graduated from Phelps High School where he excelled in academics, played soccer and was a stand- out musician, playing the clarinet. Ed attended Rochester Business Institute and in 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in England during World War II. In 1948 Ed and Dorothy moved to Sodus where he was hired by George Knapp to work at Knapp's Rexall Pharmacy. Ed and Harold Ransley eventually partnered and ran the pharmacy. Ed was a fixture at the drug store for almost 50 years....always greeting customers by name and welcoming them with a smile. Ed was a member of the United Third Methodist Church for 68 years. He was also a long time member of Sodus Lodge #392 F.& A. M. For the past 30 years, Ed has split his time between Sodus and Florida. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 6 at 11 am at the United Third Methodist Church in Sodus. Contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to the Sodus United Third Methodist Church.
